The UVM Connection - Privacy Statement
The University of Vermont Office of Alumni & Parent Relations (UVM) respects your privacy. Your information is your property. You are in control over what other registered site users see. We will never sell your information to anyone for any reason.
UVM will share no information you provide via web forms on the UVM Connection (including the Online Directory, the Business Network and the Career Connection) with any other institution or organization. By default, until you activate your account or unless you tell us otherwise, we will list your name, class year and the school or college that you attended while at the University of Vermont in our online directory. When you register or activate your account, you'll have the opportunity to opt out of listing any information whatsoever in the online directory. Only registered users of the web site (alumni, students, their parents, and faculty and staff) will ever have access to the online directories in which you may opt to be listed.
The site is intended to enhance communications among friends, colleagues, and current UVM students, but you should consider what information you want others to see and what data you would prefer to hide from others. Information you submit via web forms on the UVM Connection web site (alumni.uvm.edu) will be used only for purposes of facilitating better communication between you and the UVM community. Any information you provide about yourself will be used to update your records with the University of Vermont's Office of Alumni and Parent Relations. We will publish the information you provide only in the directories that you indicate as acceptable on the Personal Options page. You will also have the opportunity to edit your Personal Options to indicate, on a field-by-field basis, which information can be published and which cannot. Each data collection form will also present you the opportunity to completely opt out of listing your information in the relevant directory. The directories on the UVM Connection are provided to strengthen relationships among alumni and with the University of Vermont and may not be used for and abusive, commercial or political purpose.
Personal information that you provide via web forms or through other online means will be used only for purposes necessary to serve your needs, such as responding to an inquiry or other request for information. This may involve redirecting your inquiry or comment to another person or department better suited to meeting your needs.
The UVM Connection does use "cookies" to recognize returning visitors, for the purpose of serving personalized content to those individuals who register as a site user and/or request personalized content. In particular, if you check the "remember me" functionality when you register for the site, "cookies" will be used to recognize you whenever you return.
We also use server logs to collect information concerning your Internet connection and general information about your visit to our web site. This information may be used to analyze trends; to create summary statistics for the purpose of determining technical design specifications; and to identify system performance or problem areas. This information is not collected on an individual basis, but is used for aggregate analysis to help optimize site performance and enhance site features and functions.
This information is only released -- when legally required -- to help law enforcement investigations, legal proceedings or internal investigations of federal and state rules and regulations violations. These groups would use the information to track the electronic interactions back to the source computer(s) or account(s).
Each web page on the UVM Connection that collects personal or business information will have a separate privacy statement that will tell you how that information is used. You will always provide information with the comfort of knowing it will only be used for the explicit purpose for which you volunteered to be contacted, or for the specific directory in which you've opted to be listed.
If you have any questions about this privacy statement, the practices of this site, or your use of this Web site, please send e-mail to the UVM Connection or through regular mail at:
