2006 Distinguished Service Award Winners

Janet Tudhope Austin '55 and Edward "Ned" Austin '57
SERVICE: Ned and Janet Austin were cited for their exemplary leadership, service, and dedication as UVM alumni for more than two decades, both individually and as a couple. Janet has been a member of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences' Advisory Board, involved in development, public relations, and strategic planning for the college. She serves as her class vice president and has taken leadership roles as a member of her class reunion and development committees as well as the Alumni Council. A UVM trustee from 1992 until 1998, Ned has been an Advisory Board member for the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources since 1998. He served on several of his class reunion committees as well as on the Ira Allen Society Committee.

Joy Lipman Fagan '66 and William Fagan '45, MD '48
SERIVCE:  William and Joy Lipman Fagan have been longtime volunteers for UVM. Both have been members of the College of Arts and Sciences Board of Advisors for nearly ten years, and they continue to serve on the Advisory Board for Holocaust Studies. Together they served as vice chairs of the Chittenden County Regional Campaign during the first Campaign for the University of Vermont. The couple has also volunteered to plan their reunions, both undergraduate and Medical School. Bill has been class president and chair of his class reunion committee. They have been strong supporters of Special Collections at UVM's Bailey Howe Library, with a special interest in manuscripts related to Vermont and to the Holocaust.
