2008 Distinguished Service Award Winners
Sarah Dopp '68
South Burlington, Vermont
Sarah Dopp has always served as a dedicated volunteer on behalf of her alma mater, even during times when she has been pressed with work and other volunteer commitments. An unlikely fundraiser, she never has hesitated to say “yes” when asked to serve in that role on behalf of UVM. As a member of the Ira Allen Society Committee, she focused on raising leadership-level gifts for UVM from alumni donors. Sarah also has served the Alumni Association as a member of the UVM Bicentennial Committee that orchestrated the University’s 200th birthday celebration in 1991, as Awards Committee chair, as a member of the Alumni Career Network, and on the class of 1968’s Reunion Committee as class gift chair. She also was a dedicated Regional Campaign volunteer fundraiser during The Campaign for The University of Vermont.
David Holton '72
Essex Junction, Vermont
David Holton has been a loyal and enthusiastic volunteer for The University of Vermont in numerous capacities over many years. He was a co-founder of the UVM Vermont Regional Board, and when his term expired, he continued his service on the Board as an ex-officio member. During his tenure, he worked to recruit a diverse and highly-talented board to act as ambassadors for UVM throughout the state. David is president of the class of 1972, and he has also served as co-chair of the class of 1972 reunion planning committee. He was a member of the Alumni Council as well as the Athletic Council, and he serves as team captain as well as a member of the Victory Club Executive Committee. David also served on the Alumni Regional Golf Board in Boston.
Dale Rocheleau '80
South Burlington, Vermont
Dale Rocheleau began his loyal service to UVM as an undergraduate. A well-respected student leader, he rose to serve as president of the Student Government Association, and he continued his dedication and devotion to his alma mater after his graduation. As an alumnus, he exhibited a high level of leadership and commitment to The University. He led many significant initiatives, programs, and services that have advanced UVM’s mission. As an alumnus, Dale served on his class gift committee, and he also has been a member of the Ira Allen Society Committee. He was selected for leadership roles in the Alumni Association, rising to serve as vice president and president. During this time, he also served with distinction, representing the Alumni Association on many standing committees of the UVM Board of Trustees.
