Green & Gold Gift Committee
What is the Green & Gold Gift Committee? The Green & Gold Gift Committee was established in 1998 to raise annual support from alumni who graduated from UVM a minimum of 50 years ago. The goal of the Green & Gold Gift Committee is to provide financial support to their Alma Mater, which provides a high quality education to present and future students at UVM. In addition, the Green & Gold Gift Committee provides the opportunity for older alums to show their school pride through support and collaboration with other alumni groups.
Why should I give to UVM through the Green & Gold Gift Program?
Older alums remember UVM when the campus was smaller and less technologically advanced. As the University has grown over the years, it has been with the help of the alums who remember how it used to be and imagine what it can be in the future. If you are reading this today, you understand the impact that technology has had on the world since you graduated from UVM. Among other things, gifts raised through the Green & Gold Gift Committee support advanced technology as well as student scholarships and academic and scientific research. Remember, every gift to the Green and Gold Gift Committee plays a part in supporting UVM and its students for the next 50 years!
What is the role of a volunteer for the Green & Gold Gift Committee?
As a volunteer, your charge will be to lead the Green & Gold Gift Committee in continuing a strong tradition of commitment, support and pride in the University. Responsibilities of individuals on this committee include:
- Make a leadership gift to the UVM Fund by Nov. 15. (Past Gift Committee volunteers have found that by making their own leadership gifts early - before making calls to ask others for their support - it makes the calls that much easier.
- Attend Gift Committee Volunteer training Saturday morning of Homecoming & Family Weekend (or conference call training if unable to attend Homecoming).
- Solicit at least 5-8 alumni or parents for gifts by making phone calls or writing letters or emails (return forms to UVM by Nov. 15). UVM will provide volunteers with names and contact information of those to contact.
- Listen carefully and share your favorite UVM experiences or reasons for serving in this volunteer role with the people you contact, write down pertinent information, return the forms to UVM, and have fun!
- Solicit at least 3-5 alumni or parents in the spring - repeat procedures done in the Fall (return forms to UVM by May 15) or make at least 8-10 thank you calls to donors.
- Provide an update of your progress periodically to the appropriate Committee Chair or UVM Fund Volunteer Manager.
- Attend UVM events throughout the year when possible.
- Serve as a communication link between UVM and alumni or parents.
- Attend Reunion (if possible)
