Young Alumni

Perhaps the best way for those who have graduated in the last decade to get involved with the UVM community is to volunteer for the Young Alumni Committee (YAC).

The YAC comprises UVM alums who graduated within the last ten years.  The committee exists to help ensure quality and excellence at the University of Vermont by creating a consistent sense of responsibility for life-long giving to UVM.  The YAC demonstrates the important role young alumni play in shaping UVM's future.  As members of the Alumni Association over the course of their lives, young alumni will serve on a variety of UVM committees and boards.  Their volunteer support, efforts, and accomplishments will directly impact and enhance UVM programs created for students, faculty, and alumni.

The Young Alumni Committee emphasizes the idea that every gift, no matter the size, is of great significance.  The YAC strives to increase donor numbers each year from the young alumni community, in order to keep them connected to the institution throughout their lives.

As a member of the YAC, your job would be to stay connected to UVM and encourage your peers to do the same. Specific responsibilities of individuals on this committee include:

  • Make a leadership gift to the UVM Fund by Nov. 15.  (Past Gift Committee volunteers have found that by making their own leadership gifts early - before making calls to ask others for their support - it makes the calls that much easier.
  • Attend Gift Committee Volunteer training Saturday morning of Homecoming & Family Weekend (or conference call training if unable to attend Homecoming).
  • Solicit at least 5-8 young alumni for gifts by making phone calls or writing letters or emails (return forms to UVM by Nov. 15).  UVM will provide volunteers with names and contact information of those to contact.
  • Listen carefully and share your favorite UVM experiences or reasons for serving in this volunteer role with the people you contact, write down pertinent information, return the forms to UVM, and have fun!
  • Solicit at least 3-5 young alumni in the spring - repeat procedures done in the Fall (return forms to UVM by May 15) or make at least 8-10 thank you calls to donors.
  • Provide an update of your progress periodically to the appropriate Committee Chair or UVM Fund Volunteer Manager.
  • Attend UVM events throughout the year when possible.
  • Serve as a communication link between UVM and other young alumni.

Are you interested in becoming a more involved UVM alum?  Did you graduate between 2000 and 2009?  If so, we would love to have you as a part of the Young Alumni Committee!
