Professor Elaine McCrate, the 2009 recipient of the George V. Kidder Outstanding Faculty Award, will present on "Economics of Stereotyping" during Homecoming & Family Weekend on Friday, October 2 at 3:00 p.m. in the Davis Center's Livak Ballroom. A reception will follow the lecture at 4:00 p.m. in the Livak Fireplace Lounge.
Dr. McCrate's lecture will cover the economics and psychology of imperfect information in labor markets. She will consider characteristics such as "commitment," "work ethic," "motivation," and "drive" that are important to employers, hard to evaluate, and strongly linked to stereotypes, placing the problem in the historical context of American race and gender relations.
