Special highlights of Reunion 2008 include:
- The Grammy award-winning Spanish Harlem Orchestra will kick off Reunion Weekend on Thursday evening with a party in the new Davis Center! Directed by world-renowned pianist, arranger, and producer Oscar Hernández, the thirteen-member all-star ensemble has reintroduced the classic sounds of New York City Salsa to music lovers worldwide. Visit their website at www.imnworld.com/spanishharlemorchestra. And before the show, treat yourself to free salsa dancing lessons (all abilities welcome!) in the Davis Center led by Vika, a Burlington-area salsa and dance instructor.
- A health and environment theme throughout the weekend, featuring morning yoga classes, Local Motion lakefront bike tours, and Voices of Vermont speakers such as Miriam Nelson '83 ("Strong Women and Men Live Well"), Prof. Jean Harvey-Berino ("The Vtrim Weight Management Program"), and certified financial planner Christine Moriarty '84 ("Healthy Investing in Today's Market"). There will also be a special panel on "Sustainability in the 21st Century" featuring faculty from The Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources and alumni from Vermont's leading environmental organizations.
- Prof. Mary Watzin hosts two Northern Lights cruises featuring the history/health of Lake Champlain, with a special CSI-theme on Saturday for families!
- An exciting new addition this year is the Reunion Kids Camp - a program for children ages four to thirteen who will attend the weekend's events with their alumni parents. The affordable camp will give Catamount kids the opportunity to take advantage of UVM's educational and recreational facilities. Vermont Nanny Connection is a childcare option for children younger than four. CLICK HERE for more information about Reunion Kids Camp.
- After a terrific start in 2007, on-campus housing will again be offered for all reunion attendees. There will be special rates for families and a Catamount "concierge service" to make sure you're comfortable. All of the new (air-conditioned!) University Heights South complex will be dedicated to Reunion guests. CLICK HERE for all the details and to book your room on campus now!
- University Heights South will be the hub of weekend activities! Many events will also take place in the Davis Center - the new, 186,000 square foot student center. A short, five-minute walk from University Heights South, the Davis Center provides a wide range of new facilities for the UVM campus, including dining options, computer labs, the new UVM bookstore, banking, a print & mail center, and much more.
